What is the purpose of the Semantic Web?

The Semantic Web aims to enhance the ability of machines to interpret and process information by adding a layer of meaning to data. This is achieved by using standardized formats and languages, such as RDF (Resource Description Framework) and OWL (Web Ontology Language), which allow data to be linked and understood in a meaningful context. By structuring data this way, information can be more easily shared, reused, and repurposed across different systems and applications.

This approach differs significantly from focusing solely on aesthetic aspects, performance improvements, or mobile application development. While visually appealing websites and fast load times are important for user experience, they do not contribute to the underlying data's comprehension by machines. Similarly, developing mobile-friendly applications addresses usability on mobile devices but does not inherently relate to the Semantic Web's objective of making data understandable and interlinked for automated processes.
